Protect Them & Keep Them Safe... They Will Love You For It

Ponies --- How They’re The Same Only Different …

Ever see a field of flowers and from a distance and they all look the same?

Ever walk into that field and take a closer look?

Up close, side by side each flower is a little different.

Ones a little smaller; ones a little thinner… there’s differences that you can see immediately
once you have a closer look.

Same holds true for all types of horses

When you see horses in a field from far away they all look the same.

But when you get closer you can see the differences too.

Ever hear … ponies are just small horses,
they all look the same, just smaller?

This misconception is not limited to owners and breeders but to some veterinarians too.

Ponies have the same anatomy and general physiology as a larger horse, but their conformation and
    character set them apart
especially when it comes to health care, nutrition and breeding.

Ponies have a compact body, stocky build, wide chest, short stocky legs, short head and neck, trim ears, large eyes, thick mane, tail and winter coat, dense bones and wide hoofs.

And when it comes to diseases, nutrition and breeding, ponies are affected by their size, and metabolic demands.

Some are more resistant to diseases compared to horses, but ponies as a type do develop certain conditions that are more common only in ponies.

  For example:

    • ponies are prone to upward fixation of the patella (stifle lock)

    • they have a higher risk of hyperlipemia

    • a greater incidence of laminitis and Cushing’s especially in overweight and senior ponies

    • vulnerable to equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) and

    • they have difficult deliveries in pregnant mares

So treating, feeding and caring for ponies in the same manner as full sized horses often have
    bad consequences.

That’s exactly why as Horse Moms we thought it was important to have a supplement line dedicated to our ponies.  Our organic supplements take into account these differences between ponies and full sized horses.

We’ve also taken into account life stage, chronic health problems and even special needs.
You can even have custom supplements prepared for your pony.

It’s important to make sure that each individual flower in the field blooms and reaches it’s full potential, safely and naturally.
